P.M Modi Launches Fit India Movement on National Sports Day 2019
Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019 which is observed as National Sports Day launches the ‘Fit India Movement’. The event is launched at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi at 10 Am. This great initiative is taken to make India give priority to sports and fitness in day to day life of every individual. It is vital for every citizen to remain healthy to contribute in the development of the nation.
PM Modi paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand who was a great sportsperson and amazed whole world with his stamina, fitness and the most important hockey stick. Before that India’s indigenous martial arts, dances and sports were presented.
At the event, PM Modi said “Fitness has always been an integral part of our culture. But, there is indifference towards fitness issues now. A few decades back, a normal person would walk 8-10km in a day, do cycling or run.”
Adding to this he stated “But, with technology, physical activity has reduced. We walk less now and the same technology tells us that we are not walking enough.”
Many renowned personalities and winners of National Sports awards 2019 along with Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju marked their significant presence at the event.
Sports minister Rijiju said “We will take this movement to new heights with the cooperation of my fellow Indians. I am so glad that this movement is being launched on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, our hockey wizard”.
The PM congratulated the national sports awards winners and praised India’s sporting achievements.
“Be it boxing, badminton, tennis or any sport, our athletes are giving new wings to our aspirations. Their medals are not just a result of their hard work but also a reflection of a new India’s confidence,” Modi said with proud.
On the occasion of the National Sports Day 2019, “Fit India Movement” which is launched to encourage people to realize the importance physical activity and sports in their daily lives. Adding to this, PM Modi launched a “Fitness Logo” and also administered a fitness pledge that reads as “I promise to myself that I will devote time for physical activity and sports every day and I will encourage my family members and neighbors to be physically fit and make India a fit nation”. As a part of the fitness pledge, UGC (University Grants Commission) has asked everyone to walk at least 10,000 steps and follow it up in their daily routine.
So, let’s make this a great movement turns out be successful and helps in formation of stronger India.
